What to Expect in 2023
So I thought I’d write out a quick post to share some of my goals/hopes as it relates to The Redcaps for 2023, and hopefully having them documented makes it easier to actually keep the motivation to achieve them.
Video Content
So http://youtube.com/@theredcaps exists and has for some time. I tried ages ago uploading some of the early episodes of the podcast there and wasn’t overly pleased with the result. Recently I’ve removed those and I’ve got the youtube channel now prep’d for Jan 2023 to start releasing all the interviews I’ve done on the podcast.
I also tried here early in December to create a youtube short (see below) which was surprisingly more difficult than I thought it would be but I’d like to try a few more and if they do well maybe I’ll try porting this style of video over to other platforms that typically have this content.
Podcast Content
I haven’t yet started to book interviews for 2023 however, my goal is to get those up and running and try and limit myself to two (maybe three) episodes a week where one of those episodes is an interview and the other is a short-form episode or review.
Spotify offers the ability to put polls into the episode, this is something I’ve been experimenting with over the last little while. If you listen to the podcast on Spotify let me know what you think of these. Right now the number of responses I’ve gotten on them is pretty low so not sure how popular they are.
While listens have gone up recently a lot of feedback has gone down. I’m assuming that is largely due to the content lately being more interview based and perhaps the length of the listen makes it less likely that someone will call in or that I’m finally seeing the impact of Anchors changes really modifying listener behavior but trying to increase listener feedback is something I’m going to be thinking about - perhaps youtube can help there?
Gaming Content
I’d like to get a duet game going (single DM and single PC). I have an idea that I think is interesting and would like to get someone on board for an hr or two a week to play and see if it’s viable. If it works out I’d likely record the content and release it as episodes either on youtube or podcast and try and preface it with what my expectations were going into them as GM. If you’d be interested in playing in a duet game and have an hour or two a week to spare let me know, also if you have strong feelings in either direction on having actual play content on the redcaps let me know as well.
Social Media Content
So currently The Redcaps can be found on Facebook (rarely updated), Twitter (pretty active), Mastodon/Fediverse (fairly active), Discord (active in spurts), OSR Reddit (active in spurts), and I guess this newsletter counts as well. I’m not sure how much will likely change at least at the start of the year. I’m trying to decide which platforms I’m going to be on mostly as advertisement/notification and which ones I’m going to actually interact and engage on.
Other Stuff
I want to travel in 2023 and take in some conventions and visit some more FLGS and try and get into some random games.
OSR Fantasy gaming is my main focus however I’d be very interested in trying out some Science Fiction games in the near future as well.
I’ve also got some world-building ideas I need to flesh out as well as a depth crawl experiment that I need to document over the course of the year.
Thank You!
Thanks for having an interest in what I’m putting out into the world and all the kind feedback you’ve sent my way. Please continue to let me know what you like (and equally as important what you don’t) and let me know if you have ideas or suggestions I’m always open and willing to listen.
Stay safe and I’ll chat with you all again in the new year!
